These plans are open to change if state or county health departments issue new directives. Check back regularly for updates.

COVID-19 testing

All students living in on-campus housing should be tested for COVID-19 within 10 days of your permanent move-in date (not the day you drop off items). Results must be submitted to IU. More information can be found on the FAQ page of the Fall 2020 website.

Additionally, all students living in on-campus housing will receive a COVID-19 test during move-in. These tests will be administered starting August 12 when you arrive. Students testing positive will be required to return home.

Testing for IUPUI faculty, staff, and students will be available on campus by the Marion County Public Health Department on August 14 and 15, 2020. An appointment is required for testing as well as a valid driver's license or passport and your Crimson Card.

Changes in the academic calendar and class updates

  • Semester start and end dates remain the same.
    • August 24: start of fall semester
    • May 9: end of spring semester
  • Fall courses either conclude by Thanksgiving or shift online following Thanksgiving.
  • Spring courses begin on January 19 with the first three weeks of instruction online followed by on-site teaching starting on February 8.
  • New online Winter Session will allow students an opportunity to take classes between December 21 and February 7.
  • Fall and spring breaks have been removed from the calendar to preserve instructional time and to mitigate further spread of the virus through travel.

Courses may be in-person (face-to-face and hybrid), online (synchronous and asynchronous), or custom (personalized to fit you).

Visit the Student Central website to learn which classes have the modes of instruction that fit your needs.

Campus housing

  • Students who sign a housing contract and do not select a roommate will more than likely live in a single occupancy room if one is available.
  • As in previous years, students may choose their own roommates with an exemption process available.
  • Dining services will be available and will follow CDC guidelines.

Health and safety procedures

A number of strategies designed to mitigate risk and prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in Fall 2020 and beyond will be implemented, including:

  • Cleaning protocols
  • Managing room capacities and schedules
  • Maintaining safe distancing
  • Wearing masks
  • Modifying food service
  • Regulating personal health checks
  • Quarantining when necessary

Campus is putting in place procedures for adjusting duties and expectations where needed and feasible for higher risk individuals in the IUPUI community.

Faculty and staff are required to sign the Community Responsibility Acknowledgement, and students are required to sign the Student Commitment Form to make a commitment to protecting the health and safety of everyone at IUPUI.
